Meet up at the Santa Fe County Rail Runner 599 Station Parking Lot at 8:30 AM (Exit 276 on I-25 North, turn right onto NM599 and then take the next left to enter the 599 Station). Drivers meeting and roll out at 9 AM. From there we will travel approximately 10 miles to the USFS Headquarters Well Trailhead to air down.
Once aired down we will explorer the Caja del Rio (“Box of the River”) to check out a volcano vent (reportedly bottomless) and stop at a couple overlooks to the Rio Grande. While the majority of this trip will be on rough dirt roads, there are several spots where low range will probably be needed and there is a possibility of pinstriping your rig. All day ride, approximately 40 mile and around 6 hours of wheeling.
Bring snacks and drinks. Dress for the weather.
Recovery points front and back of your 4x4, good off-road tires recommended.
If muddy conditions that day, ride may be canceled.
